GOODWINS CHARITY

In 1639 a local farmer Thomas Goodwin left his farm to be managed by a trust. His intention was that  income from the farm should be used at the discretion of the trustees to help apprentices. The modern interpretation of this is to help not only apprentices, but also students beginning further education and projects supporting young people in the village.

    Supporting young people of Hogsthorpe for 375 years

    Village organisations working with young people may apply for support at any time by applying in writing (details below) 
    Students may apply for grants between the ages of 16-24 years and undertaking further education.
    Grants are not made while students are still at school.

    Student Criteria

     You have to be a resident in Hogsthorpe
    You are in further education i.e. College or University NOT sixth form at school.
    Any monies received from the charity must be used for equipment such as books, stationery and resources for your course.
    NVQ students or apprenticeships will also be considered.
    You may apply at least 3 times. However, if you are enrolled onto a 4 year duration course, you may apply for a 4th time.

    Important DateApplications MUST be received by 30 November. Student grants are     made at the meeting in December. Payments will normally be made in January or February.

    Other CharitiesHogsthorpe Charities Committee also administers two other charities.  These are Ashton's and Mager's charities. The money from these is used to help older people of the village.
